Yesterday, I took Susanna (Gotz Little Sister) on her first outing. She got dressed up in a colonial dress and Felicity's birthsay socks and broacde slippers and and I took her to an old Georgian style mansion in Providence. It was built by Mr. John Brown, who was a Providence merchant in the late 1700's. He sold rum in Africa for slaves and took them to the West Indies to get molasses and sugar to make more rum back in RI. He also traded in China. His brother was a Quaker, a man who didn't believe in slavery and he took his brother to court to sue him over slavery and he won, so Mr. John Brown had to give up one of his slave ships. He was still very very rich! He also participated in the China trade and his house showcases many of the items he picked up in the Orient. The house is mainly furnished in Colonial style and they have 4 poster beds like Felicity's and a bedwarmer and chocolate cups belonging to the Brown family. The house also showcases items from other well-known people at the time, and they have a locking tea caddy like Lissie's. In Mr. Brown's study, there is a tilt top table similar to Felicity's and in the bedrooms they have highboys similar to the clothes press but with drawers and no cupboard.
I took a picture of Susanna in front of the house but she got all washed out because of the sun
